Looking for a Unique gift for a special adult?

Do you need an unique thoughtful gift for someone? I’ve go just the thing for you! (No it’s not the Book Buddy. Not this time)

Have you been in the children’s section of your local bookstore lately? Have you bought a children’s picture book for an adult? This may seem like a silly idea or a gage gift but stick with me here. Over the past five maybe ten years the artistry of children’s picture books has made a tremendous leap. The illustration in some picture books these days looks them look more like fine art coffee table books than something for a toddler to slobber their applesauce on. For the artwork alone these would make a fine gift for the adult with a decerning eye. But that’s not even the best part.

Many children’s picture books read like poetry. They focus on some aspect of the human condition; a struggle, a feeling, a point of perspective and then distil that theme down to it’s essence.

I have received several children’s picture books as gifts over the years and they are some of my most cherished possessions. Each one packed an emotional punch and showed that the gift giver understood something about me. These gifts left me feeling touched, understood, and connected. That’s pretty amazing for a gift that’s only going to run you $15 to $18. Not to mention the fact that nothing is easier to wrap than a book!

So the next time you need a gift for someone special (Valentines Day is coming right up) stop by your local indie bookstore. The bookseller there will hook you up. Or just drop me a line. I’ve got lots of recommendations.
